When Rob and Jude saved some unwanted olive trees from friends over 15 years ago, little did they know that what started out as a hobby soon became their obsession. In 2008, Olive’s Olives was established, provided beautiful table olives and supplying local farmers markets and well known establishments in the Macedon Ranges area.

Their 300-tree olive grove north of Kyneton in rich volcanic soil, plus the management of 30- year old trees on an additional property, provides the Pierces with the huge task of grove maintenance and ensuring the trees are healthy, disease free, and battling with the ever destructive yet beautiful cockatoos! Rob says that there are numerous challenges, not just protecting and maintain the crop, but then labour intensive harvesting, brining and bottling keeps them constantly busy.

Olive’s Olives requires 12 months of traditional natural processing in brine, they never use any artificial methods to hasten the pickling process, this is a labour of love and Rob says that he thoroughly enjoys the process of constant learning. They also run seminars for other olive tree enthusiasts.

The greatest reward for Rob and Jude Pierce is seeing their hard work result in a beautiful crop from their incredible olive trees, and then the highlight in the end is the customer’s enjoyment of the final product. Their hope for the future is to continue to have a healthy farm and enjoy the wonderful produce it provides and that they continue to be able to share it with local consumers.

As well as table olives they have developed a Pure Olive Paste which is only the flesh of the olive with nothing added. It is stunning on bread or crackers by itself and is delicious to use in cooking as an added extra to give some 'olive zing' to your recipes.

Rob is available to consult to people who have bought property in the Macedon Ranges and surrounds that have olive trees on it. He can assist you in learning about the tree and it's health, harvesting, pruning and general grove management.
