Moonlit Grove is a small (300 tree) olive grove located 3 minutes from the Avoca high street in Victoria’s Pyrenees region. What started out 5 years ago as a weekender with a couple of run-down olive groves has become a restoration passion project for Doug Scobie and Jenni Montgomery, and an expanding business specialising in growing and selling artisan olive products.
The grove was not in the greatest nick when Doug and Jenni took over the place just shy of Christmas, 2018. The aim of having some R-and-R amongst the gum trees quickly became a project to restore the surviving trees (the grove was planted in the late 1980s) and replace the missing ones. 2022 sees the grove back to 300 trees, with plans to expand to 500.
We produce small batch extra virgin olive oil from our Frantoio and Kalamata trees, and table olives in brine or olive oil, using our Kalamata and Manzanillo olives. We retail via our website and from an expanding number of Melbourne and regional outlets. And as a side-hustle we offer harvesting services for owners of small groves (up to 200 trees) and management advice as well. There’s a fair bit happening in the Moonlit Grove space so keep an eye on our social media channels.
